Finch is the common name of a family of more than 120 species of perching birds called fringilliadae, which is the largest family of birds. They are seed eating songbirds. Finches thrive thanks to their adaptability and can be found in almost any habitat on earth. These birds have a bouncing flight with alternating bouts of flapping and gliding on closed wings, and most sing well. Their nests are basket-shaped and built in trees. In addition to spreading plant seeds through their waste, finches also destroy weed seeds and may consume harmful insects.

Finches can be found on every continent except for Australia and Antarctica. Finches thrive in temperate climates, and can also be found in desert, mountain, tropical and even subarctic biomes. Finch birds can be found in gardens and on farms. They like areas with many trees.

The diet of the Finch consists primarily of plant food, although they will eat a few insects and feed them to their young in Spring. The Finch's natural diet is weed seeds and occasionally fruit. They will regularly extract seed from winter berries.
