This unique South American monkey is easily recognizable, due to its bald head, and red face. Unlike most monkeys, uakaris have very short tails, but move nimbly in the trees without them by using their arms and legs.

These monkeys live only in the Amazon River basin, preferring permanently or seasonally flooded rain forests and locations near water sources, such as small rivers and lakes.

This animal spends its life in the canopy of the amazon rain forest, looking for seeds and nuts. Because it is a cautious non-aggressive animal, they are often difficult to find. Uakaris forage during the day. They eat a fruit-heavy diet, but also consume leaves and some insects. Their powerful jaws can Uakari imageopen a hardy Brazil nut.
