    Cockatoos are a large type of parrot, distinguished by a crest. The crest raises when the birds are excited, alarmed or frightened. Cockatoos also have strong, curved beaks for cracking open seeds and nuts.

    The Cockatoo habitat extends from the Philippines to Tasmania and Australia.
    Some also come from islands besides the Philippines. These islands include the islands of: Bismarck Archipelago, the Celebes, the Solomons, The Lesser Sunda Islands(Lombock, Sumba, Flores, Sumbawa and Timor) the Molucan group and New Guinea.

    The diet of the cockatoos is composed of seeds, tubers, corms, fruit, flowers and insects.

    • Cockatoos are as loud as they are cuddly. Fortunately they are cuddly for longer periods of time than they are loud. They love to scream in the morning and evening the most.
    • True colors. Cockatoos are the only parrots that are naturally pink or naturally white. In most cases, a white parrot is considered an albino or a genetic mutation.
    • The word cockatoo is derived from a Malay word that means "pincher".
    • The bird's contact call is a rolling metallic krur-rr or kree, which may carry long distances and is always given while flying; its alarm call is sharp.
